Subject: Ride to Conquer Cancer Thank You Letter

"Dear All,

On behalf of The Princess Margaret Foundation for Cancer Research, I would like to thank you for all of your generous donations allowing me to surpass my mandatory and initial goal of $2500 dollars. All of your contributions have made it possible for me to participate in this years' amazing Ride to Conquer Cancer event this past weekend and more importantly help support breakthrough cancer research studies at The Princess Margaret facilities. I'd like to take this moment to thank all of you for your donations, explain why I initially wanted to participate in the ride, share some stories from the ride itself, and describe the success of this particular event. 

Before this weekend, I had never been apart of an event like this. The fundraising, the training, and the ride- it was all new. There were several motivating factors for me to complete this ride including; the self-satisfaction of completing an act of humanitarianism, fundraise for cancer research, and complete a fitness goal.  Although no one in my immediate family has been directly affected by cancer (fortunately) I have seen the catastrophic impact associated with the disease  as it recently took the life of my buddy's dad. Seeing the great impact of this disease, and hearing how each year over 187, 600 new cancer cases diagnosed in Canada alone, I felt obligated to help make a difference. 

During the 220km ride from Ontario Place to Niagara Falls, one thing that I found amazing was that there were several participants with yellow flags on the back of their bikes identifying themselves as cancer survivors.  At any point during the ride that I was feeling overwhelmed by the  large physical demands, I thought to myself- this is nothing compared to what these individuals endured. There was a strong mutual respect between all of the individuals for these special participants. 

Another amazing moment that took place while riding was a woman on the side of the road with a large photo of a young boy posted on a bristol board with large words reading "Thanks to all of you, you're helping save my sons' life at the Princess Margaret Hospital!". This woman and her sign was physical evidence that showed me that the dollars raised by this foundation are actually making a difference."
